"drawings" , hidenori izumi
exhibition: october
-november 2003

the:artist:network presents
the first exhibition in conjunction with the nagoya university of fine arts
in japan. the network will host an annual exhibition / residency program
for a postgraduate selected by the university.
izumi's work is deeply rooted in japanese philosophy and religion. his minimal
installations of stone clusters and large scale drawings bring to mind a
fusion of zen garden architecture and the work of land artist richard long.
the ordering of seemingly chaotic structures and elements of nature evolve
in a meditational field or ritual playground. as in japanese landscape tradition,
the elements of izumi's composition are both formal and symbolic simultaniously.
