"CRITICAL MASS " at the Huang Yan Contemporary Art Center (HYCAC)

"CRITICAL MASS" is part survey, part cross-section of the contemporary work being produced in beijing today. the exhibition traces the emerging silhouette of the creative landscape with a primary focus on the inner-mechanisms and networks of the artistic community as a whole.

international artist in residency opportunity

400 kilometers north of beijing, china, weichang county stands on the boundary between inner mongolia and hebei province. it is a historical place where several emperors of china including kang xi king of the qing dynasty hunted. since then it received the name ˇ§weichangˇ¨ which means hunting place. It is a very inspiring place which contains hills, plains, grasslands, rivers and deserts. the launch of Weichang International Art Exchange Center will be on september 15,2008. the first art project will be the international mural painting festival during the festival artists can use local residents' houses as their painting settings. we welcome various topics and styles. the first art festival has gotten great support from the local government and the government of chengde city. the organizer is Weichang International Art Exchange Center who will provide food, accommodation, travel and some other expenses during the work period for the invited artists. a bilingual catalog will be published for the festival.

1. muralist ˇV fresco artists are invited to work on a site specific project. on the buildings of the villages in weichang county the artists will work and leave a permanent mural.
2. HYCAC (new land art in a new land) international artists are invited to do a land-art project in weichang county. according to specific proposals the HYCAC will select and facilitate the execution of the project.
3. HYCAC (film/video/audio) international artists are invited to propose film and video projects specific to the the residency. the project should incorporate aspects of the geographic location, and address the local culture.

martin wehmer is the second iaab residency artist at the:artist:network beijing

the:artist:network and the HYCAC artist in residency program welcome martin wehmer from freiburg germany to beijing. he has received a grant from the iaab - merian foundation, switzerland. martin's new work has been featured in "CRITICAL MASS " and "POWER . SHAPE" at bridge art center.
